What

Building a hierarchy for your Client is a good way to see an organisational structure, especially if your Client has subsidiary or parent company records.

Where

Home > Clients > Select your View > Click a Client record > General tab

How

1. To build your own hierarchy view, within the Parent Client field locate and select your Subsidiary Client. In this example, we will use Chicago Blackhawks INC as the Parent Client, and the Chicago Wolves INC as the Subsidiary Client:

2. Under the General tab, locate the Parent Client field and type the name of the Parent Client then click Select. You have now assigned a Parent Client to your Subsidiary Client:

3. To access the hierarchy view, click the ellipsis icon within the top ribbon menu and select View Hierarchy - if your page resolution is high enough, the View Hierarchy button can already be seen in the ribbon menu without needing to click the ellipsis:

4. This will open the Hierarchy view where we can see the Parent Client and any subsidiaries:

5. To add more subsidiary Client accounts to the Parent client, click + New to add a new Client from a blank record. Alternatively, if you wish to assign an existing Client, access the existing Client record and input the Parent Client that you wish the selected Client to report to. Once saved, this will update the hierarchy:

Within the Invoice Contact and Paperwork Contact fields - found within the Placement record - the lookup feature will now return Contacts who are linked to the associated Client. It will include Contacts who are based within the Parent and Subsidiary Clients, which allows a refined scope of eligible personnel. If a Contact is not available, you will need to refer to the Hierarchy model to see if the expected Clients are linked to each other.

This lookup functionality is explained in more detail within the Mercury v26 Release Notes - whilst in the notes, use Ctrl+F to find UPDATE 28861
