1. Tag Searching
QUESTION:
With searching via Tags in Mercury Search, should it only search based on the specific tag you select, or similar ones based on name?
For example, when using Boost with Tags:
Three named Tags:
Skills > Naval
Skills > Naval Architect
Skills > Naval Platforms
I select to work with:
Skills > Defence AND Skills > Naval
If I boost Naval above Defence, some Candidates come up above other ones, and the "Hits" noted it was because there were 3 hits for Skills > Naval, which turned out to be because the Candidate in question had the above 3 assigned to him.
From a UX perspective, if I select a specific Tag, my first instinct would be that no others should appear unless I adjust the Boost, where a decrease would make it less specific for that Tag, and an increase would make it more specific for that Tag?
ANSWER:
At the moment, it should do the specific ones you select, so selecting 'Skills > Naval' should not bring back Candidates who don't specifically have that Tag, even if the name is similar.
Example 1
Candidate A has:
- Skills > Naval
- Skills > Naval Architect
Candidate B has:
- Skills > Naval Architect
If I did a search for 'Skills > Naval', Candidate B should not be coming back.
Example 2
Candidate A has:
- Skills > Naval
- Skills > Naval Architect
- Skills > Naval Platforms
Candidate B has:
- Skills > Naval
- Other tag 1
- Other tag 2
So, both come back from the 'Skills > Naval' search, but Candidate A would be scored higher (and likewise if its boosted, it would even be higher), as its found the term 'Skills > Naval' more times than Candidate B (the boosting/score comes from the fuzzy searching side, which is acting as a contains, which is then forced to be an exact match).
